Virginia House Resolution commending Virginia University of Lynchburg, a Historically Black College and University, on its 140th anniversary

Originally organized in May 1886 during the Virginia Baptist State Convention and opened on January 18, 1890, as Lynchburg Baptist Seminary with 33 students under Professor R.P. Armstead

Institution has undergone five name changes throughout its history, becoming Virginia University of Lynchburg in 1996, and has been led by 16 presidents including current president Dr. Kathy C. Franklin

Curriculum has been grounded in Biblical principles and a "do-it-thyself" philosophy throughout its existence

Directs the Clerk of the House of Delegates to present a copy of the resolution to the university as recognition of its contributions to Lynchburg and the Commonwealth
