VTN was formally established in 2006 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization, with origins tracing back to early 2000s coordination efforts through the Southern Governors' Association's Telehealth/Homeland Security Task Force

The organization played a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a central convener, researcher, and advocate as telehealth adoption accelerated dramatically across Virginia

Virginia law designated VTN to provide consultation to the Virginia Board of Health on developing and maintaining the Statewide Telehealth Plan, elevating it to a central role in public telehealth strategy

Directs the Clerk of the House of Delegates to prepare a copy of the resolution for presentation to VTN as an expression of admiration for its contributions to the Commonwealth
