Sin Barreras, a Charlottesville nonprofit founded in 2012 by Ecuadorean immigrant Fanny Smedile, is commended for 14 years of immigration support services, education, and advocacy for Hispanic immigrants in Central Virginia

The organization has helped 205 individuals achieve citizenship or Green Cards, processed 245 DACA applications or renewals, and supported 314 other immigration petitions as of 2025

Educational programs in 2025 served 156 students, offering GED preparation, English and Spanish language courses, computer literacy, driver education, and citizenship test instruction

The annual Cville Sabroso Festival, sponsored by Sin Barreras, attracted between 4,500 and 4,700 attendees in 2025 to celebrate Latino culture

In 2025, 274 volunteers contributed 6,114 hours of service to the organization's programs
