Sophie Rambo, a senior at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, set a national high school record in the 500 meter event with a time of 1:10.07 on January 16, 2026, breaking Athing Mu's 2020 record of 1:10.22

Her record-setting time makes her the 26th fastest American all-time in the 500 meter event

Rambo holds nine individual state titles and helped lead Grassfield High School to two Virginia High School League Class 6 state championships in track and field

She maintains a 3.75 GPA, is a National Honor Society member, and will attend the University of Georgia in the fall with aspirations for future Olympic competition

The Virginia House of Delegates formally commends her achievement and directs the Clerk to present her with a copy of the resolution
