Ilia Roman Malinin of Vienna, Virginia, a George Mason University student, helped Team USA win gold in the mixed team figure skating event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy

Malinin scored 200.03 in the men's free skate on February 8, 2026, including a one-skate backflip landing that propelled Team USA past Japan into first place

In September 2022, he became the first skater to successfully land a quadruple axel in international competition, earning him the nickname "QuadGod"

Malinin won World Championship gold medals in 2024 and 2025, achieving the fastest junior-to-senior world champion turnaround in 26 years

The Virginia House of Delegates formally commends Malinin for his athletic achievements and directs the Clerk to present him with a copy of the resolution
