Helen H. Guthrie is commended by the Virginia House of Delegates on the occasion of her 100th birthday, celebrated on February 3, 2026

Guthrie served as an educator for 40 years, teaching business courses in Manassas and at Virginia Randolph High School and Highland Springs High School in Henrico County before retiring in 1987

She earned a bachelor's degree from St. Paul's College and a master's degree from New York University after attending Brunswick County Public Schools in Lawrenceville

Guthrie has been an active member of Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church for over 46 years, serving as a deaconess, and volunteered at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center for more than 35 years

She held a 30-year membership with the National Council of Negro Women and served in leadership positions with various civic and service organizations in the Richmond area
