Master Chief Petty Officer Christopher S. Cupito, USN, is commended for saving a stranger's life on September 4, 2024, after the person jumped from the West Norfolk Bridge into the Elizabeth River

Cupito received the Gold Lifesaving Medal from the U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security for his actions

Upon witnessing the incident, Cupito ran to a nearby marina, located a paddleboard, and swam to rescue the struggling man, navigating hazardous conditions including crowded recreational boat traffic

Cupito visited the rescued individual at the hospital the following day, demonstrating continued compassion beyond the initial rescue

The Virginia House of Delegates directs the Clerk to present a copy of this resolution to Cupito in recognition of his heroic actions
