Worked at Emporia Garment Factory and Greensville County Public Schools as a cook and cafeteria manager throughout her career

Advocated passionately for civil rights and voting rights, volunteering at polling places during elections, inspired by her grandmother Martha Jefferson who founded Jefferson Elementary School and Chapel Hill Baptist Church

Supported the political careers of family members including two sons who served on county boards of supervisors and daughter-in-law Roslyn C. Tyler who represented the 75th District in the House of Delegates from 2006 to 2022

Survived by seven children after 79 years of marriage to her late husband Calvin Tyler, Sr.; the House of Delegates directs a copy of this resolution be presented to her family
