Edward Joseph Face retired on January 30, 2026, after 46 years of service with Virginia's State Corporation Commission Bureau of Financial Institutions, including 28 years as commissioner

Started as an examiner in 1979 after earning a business administration degree from the University of Alabama, was promoted to deputy commissioner in 1993 and commissioner in 1997

Oversaw regulation and supervision of more than 35,000 depository and non-depository financial institutions, including state-chartered banks, credit unions, trust companies, and mortgage lenders

Served as chair of the Conference of State Banking Supervisors (2006-2007) and helped found the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators, serving as its first president

Recognized as the longest-serving commissioner in the Bureau's history and one of only two commissioners to lead the agency in the past 50 years
