Requires the Board of Education to develop guidelines for water safety instruction as part of health education for elementary school students during its next regularly scheduled revision of the Health Education Standards of Learning and Curriculum Framework

Water safety instruction must cover awareness of water conditions and safe behaviors in and around water

Curriculum must include instruction on preventing and reducing drowning risk and injury, including proper use of flotation devices and the importance of swimming in lifeguard-monitored areas

Guidelines developed by the Board will be made available to each local school board for implementation
