VA SB221

Allows local governing bodies (counties, cities, and towns) to extend school crossing zone active times from 30 minutes to up to 60 minutes before and after regular school hours by ordinance

Requires localities to determine that children will be going to or from school during the extended time period before implementing the increase

Maintains the existing 25 mph speed limit in school crossing zones, with signs required to be placed no more than 750 feet from school property limits

Preserves current authority for localities to decrease the 30-minute time period if they determine no children will be present during that time

Amends § 46.2-873 of the Code of Virginia governing maximum speed limits at school crossings
