Richmond Raceway celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2026, having opened on October 12, 1946, as a half-mile dirt track at the Atlantic Rural Exposition fairgrounds in Henrico County

The track hosted its first NASCAR Grand National Division race on April 19, 1953, and is now the oldest active NASCAR Cup Series track on the East Coast

The current configuration, built in 1988, is a unique three-quarter-mile D-shaped oval with lights added in 1991 for nighttime racing

In 2018, the raceway partnered with Henrico County and the Commonwealth to redevelop the infield into the "Virginia is for Lovers Infield FanGrounds"

The General Assembly commends the raceway and directs a resolution copy be presented to NASCAR executives Jim France and Lesa Kennedy, along with Richmond Raceway president Lori Waran
