August Bryant Bullock, known as "Augie," was a Newport News educator and arts advocate who died on October 6, 2025

Devoted over 40 years to Virginia public education as a teacher, principal, assistant principal, curriculum supervisor, and associate superintendent

Earned a bachelor's degree cum laude from Virginia Union University (1974), master's degree from Hampton University (1977), and advanced certificate from Virginia Tech

Made significant contributions to regional theater, including serving as director of new works with the District of Columbia Black Theater Festival and involvement with the International Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem

Served on the Hampton Roads Transit Board of Commissioners and as chair of the Education Committee for the Newport News Branch of the NAACP
