West Potomac High School in Alexandria, Fairfax County, is commended on its 40th anniversary, having been established in 1985 through the merger of Fort Hunt High School and Groveton High School

The school serves one of Virginia's most diverse student bodies, with students from more than 75 countries speaking over 46 different languages at home

Academic offerings include 26 advanced placement classes, four dual enrollment courses, and career and technical education through the West Potomac Academy and Clifford S. Hardison Governor's Health Sciences Academy

The school has produced over 100 National Merit commended scholars, three state debate championships, and award-winning performing arts programs that have performed for Presidents Reagan and Clinton

The resolution directs the Clerk of the Senate to present a copy to the school recognizing its commitment to academic excellence and community leadership
