Founded and coordinated an annual North District food drive beginning in 2002 to aid families in need and held regular town hall meetings to promote citizen engagement

Served on multiple regional bodies including the Peninsula Airport Commission, Transportation District Commission of Hampton Roads, Hampton Roads Regional Jail Authority, and Sister Cities of Newport News, Inc.

Received recognition including the NAACP Living Legend award, YWCA Women of Distinction award, and American Legion Leadership Award

The Virginia General Assembly formally commends her legacy of service, with the resolution agreed to by the Senate on March 5, 2026 and the House of Delegates on March 9, 2026
