James Charlton Graves, a lifelong Madison County resident, died on October 26, 2025, and is honored by the Virginia General Assembly for his contributions to the community

Graduated from Madison County High School, completed a postgraduate year at Woodberry Forest School, earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech, and served two years in the military

Established Graves Mountain Lodge (now Graves Mountain Farm and Lodges) in 1965 with his wife Rachel, creating a family resort near Shenandoah National Park

Served on numerous local and state boards and committees focused on community support and Madison County development

Resolution directs the Clerk of the Senate to present a copy to the Graves family, including his wife of 62 years and sons Lucky and Lynn
