Sergeant Dianne M. Dowdy joined the Virginia Division of Capitol Police on April 22, 1985, and celebrated 40 years of service in 2025

Currently serves as the Division's crime prevention and emergency preparedness sergeant, conducting security assessments for state facilities and private residences of elected officials

Provides executive protection coordination and training for the Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and members of the Virginia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals

Received multiple awards including Officer of the Year (2000), Employee of the Year (2013), Award of Excellence (2023), and the Lieutenant Jan McTernan Blue Friday Honor (January 2026)

The General Assembly formally commends her service and directs the Clerk of the Senate to present her with a copy of the resolution
