William Edward Jamerson, Sr., of Appomattox County, died on October 19, 2025, and is honored by the Virginia General Assembly for his service as a football referee, builder, and public servant

Played starting tackle on the undefeated 1954 Virginia Tech football team and later officiated for the Atlantic Coast Conference for 21 years, covering approximately 200 major college games and 11 bowl games

Co-founded J.E. Jamerson and Sons, Inc. construction company with his father, building it into one of the largest and most respected in the region

Served on the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors and founded the Grace Hills Early Learning Center

Received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lynchburg and the Alumni Distinguished Service Award from Virginia Tech in 1990
