Michael R. Frey, who died on February 16, 2026, served as the inaugural Sully District supervisor on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors from 1991 to 2015, holding office for six consecutive terms

Originally from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Frey moved to Northern Virginia in 1978 and worked as an intern and staff member for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors before becoming an elected official

Served on numerous regional bodies including the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Development Policy Committee, and the Dulles Area Transportation Association Executive Committee

Advocated for animal welfare throughout his career, helping renovate the Fairfax County Animal Shelter on West Ox Road (later renamed in his honor) and supporting construction of the Lorton shelter

Supported youth and community causes including Southwestern Youth Association sports programs, pediatric cancer fundraisers, and the Centreville Immigration Forum
