Lawrence Max Beyer, a Roanoke County civic leader and distinguished veteran, passed away on January 5, 2026, at age 85

Served 20 years in the United States Army, retiring as lieutenant colonel, including two combat tours in Vietnam (1966–1967 and 1972–1973) and earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and Presidential Unit Citation

Concluded military career as professor of military science at The College of William & Mary, then worked as a certified public accountant for the Virginia Department of Taxation

Active in Republican Party politics, serving as Sixth District Republican Committee's Roanoke Valley vice chair and attending the 2008 Republican National Convention as a delegate

Survived by his sister, three children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter; predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Princess "Penny" Dolly Beyer
