Graduated from Richlands High School (1959), Emory and Henry University (1963), and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science; owned and operated Hurst-Scott Funeral Homes in Richlands and Tazewell

Served in the United States National Guard in Richlands and was a member of the Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 for more than 53 years

Held the distinction of being the longest active member of both the Tazewell County Country Club and the Richlands Lions Club at the time of his passing

Survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha, and three children; resolution directs the Clerk of the Senate to prepare a copy for presentation to his family
