Virginia Esqueda Gilpin died on May 18, 2025, at age 98; she was a Virginia Beach community member who was married to Billy Gilpin for 72 years until his death in October 2024

Dedicated more than 40 years of volunteer service to Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services and the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, becoming a cardiac technician during the early development of prehospital advanced life support

Served in multiple leadership roles including squad commander, captain, and lieutenant, and was recognized as a trailblazer for women in emergency medical services

Received a Medal of Merit, and the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad Foundation established the Virginia Gilpin Distinguished Service Award in her honor

The Senate of Virginia expresses condolences and directs the Clerk to present a copy of the resolution to her family
