Prohibits firearm possession by persons found by a court to pose a danger to themselves or others due to mental illness, including those subject to hospitalization orders under 18 V.S.A. § 7617 or found in need of treatment under 13 V.S.A. § 4822

Increases penalties for second or subsequent offenses of firearm possession by prohibited persons from up to 2 years imprisonment and $1,000 fine to up to 3 years imprisonment and $5,000 fine

First offense penalties remain unchanged: up to 2 years imprisonment, up to $1,000 fine, or both

Creates an exemption allowing persons to petition the Family Division for relief from firearms disability under section 4825

Takes effect immediately upon passage
