Effective July 1, 2026, manufacturers and sellers of firefighting personal protective equipment (PPE) or station wear containing PFAS must provide written notice to purchasers at the time of sale, including the reason PFAS are added.

"Station wear" is defined as uniform shirts and pants worn by firefighting personnel, often underneath protective equipment.

Both sellers and purchasers must retain the written PFAS notice for at least three years from the transaction date.

Effective July 1, 2028, the sale, distribution, or offering for sale of firefighting PPE or station wear with intentionally added PFAS is prohibited in Vermont.

The bill amends existing consumer protection statutes (9 V.S.A. § 2494p and § 2494s) to expand PFAS regulations from PPE alone to include station wear.
