Prohibits knowingly possessing a firearm in any building owned, leased, rented, or operated by the State, a political subdivision, or a municipality

Violations punishable by up to one year imprisonment, a fine up to $1,000, or both

Exempts federal law enforcement officers, Vermont-certified law enforcement officers, and government employees authorized to carry firearms as part of official duties

Municipalities may opt out by resolution or ordinance, designating specific buildings or all municipal buildings as locations where firearms are permitted

Requires conspicuous notice of the prohibition to be posted at each public entrance to government buildings; effective July 1, 2026
