Vermont General Assembly approves amendments to the City of Burlington charter that were approved by voters on March 4, 2025

Repeals the detailed codified ward boundary descriptions from the charter, replacing them with authorization for the City Council to modify election area boundaries to ensure equal population distribution based on U.S. Census data

Election area boundary changes may not occur more frequently than once every five years and must be approved by voters at an annual or special city meeting

Authorizes the City Council to adopt ordinances requiring landlords to provide advance notice to residential tenants prior to tenancy termination, including special notice requirements for vulnerable populations (older Vermonters, individuals with disabilities, low-income individuals)

Authorizes the City Council to require at least 90 days advance written notice for rent increases or lease term changes, with the option to include special notice requirements for vulnerable populations
