Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) may serve as the attending health care professional responsible for coordinating a hospital patient's care, a role previously limited to physicians

Physician consultation and support must be available to attending APRNs at all times in accordance with applicable standards of practice and regulatory requirements

APRNs gain authority to provide informed consent information, sign professional case records, and inform patients of continuing health care requirements following discharge

Complaints regarding patient rights violations may be filed with either the Board of Medical Practice (for physicians) or the Office of Professional Regulation (for APRNs)

Act takes effect upon passage
