School districts providing grades 9-12 education must add four voting student members to their boards, one from each grade level, regardless of how many high schools the district operates.

School districts providing grades 7-8 education must add two nonvoting student members to their boards, one from each grade level.

Student board members serve the same term length as adult members, must be enrolled in a district-operated school during their service, and become ineligible if they graduate before their term ends.

The superintendent appoints student board members following a process adopted by the school board that allows secondary students to participate in selecting the student members.

Effective July 1, 2026, these provisions supersede any conflicting educational charter provisions or school district articles of agreement.
