The Bennington Fire Department assumed management from an ad hoc committee of local business owners in January 1965, with Fire Chief Chuck Sawyer serving as the first General Chairperson

Weekend festivities include a parade with floats, musicians, and Vermont dignitaries, plus a car show, sporting competitions, chicken barbeque dinner, and Las Vegas night funded through year-round fundraisers
