Vermont law enforcement agencies, officers, and persons acting on their behalf are prohibited from knowingly providing information or expending resources (time, money, facilities, equipment, personnel) to assist federal immigration authorities with civil or criminal immigration investigations or proceedings.

"Federal immigration authorities" includes the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Noncooperation requirements extend to situations involving protected health care activity investigations (12 V.S.A. § 7306) and drug overdose reporting immunity (18 V.S.A. § 4254).

Exceptions allow law enforcement to respond to valid judicial warrants or conduct criminal investigations unrelated to federal immigration law enforcement.

Takes effect immediately upon passage.
