Prohibits possession of semiautomatic assault weapons in Vermont, with violations punishable by up to one year imprisonment, a fine of up to $500, or both

Exempts federal and Vermont-certified law enforcement officers (on or off duty) and active members of the Vermont National Guard, other state National Guards, and U.S. Armed Forces

Defines covered weapons as semiautomatic rifles, pistols, or shotguns with detachable magazines and specific features such as folding/telescoping stocks, pistol grips, thumbhole stocks, bayonet mounts, flash suppressors, or grenade launchers

Excludes manually operated firearms (bolt, pump, lever, slide action), permanently inoperable firearms, antique firearms, and semiautomatic rifles or shotguns limited to five-round capacity

Takes effect immediately upon passage
