Public water systems using advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) devices must provide prior written notice to users about wireless two-way communication capabilities and inform users of their opt-out rights

Users may decline installation of AMI devices, though the water system may charge for alternative meter costs and additional service charges to operate the alternative

Users may request removal of previously installed AMI devices at any time without incurring removal charges

Cybersecurity Advisory Council shall develop nonbinding guidance for public water systems on cybersecurity practices related to metering systems and customer data protection

Updates existing electric utility smart meter law (30 V.S.A. § 2811) to use consistent "advanced metering infrastructure device" terminology and allows electric companies to charge for alternative devices (removing previous prohibition on additional charges)
