S.258 - Super Speeder Accountability Act

• Requires drivers convicted of operating at 100+ mph or whose licenses are suspended/revoked for speeding violations to obtain a restricted license and install GPS-based intelligent speed assistance devices that actively limit vehicle speed to posted limits

• Mandates license suspensions for driving 100+ mph: 6 months for first conviction, 1 year for second, and 2 years for third or subsequent convictions

• Sets application and renewal fees at $125 for the restricted license/certificate, with all device installation, maintenance, and calibration costs borne by the offender

• Requires device manufacturers to reduce costs by at least 50% for individuals receiving 3SquaresVT, LIHEAP, Reach Up, or similar public benefits

• Establishes civil penalty up to $500 for anyone who tampers with or helps circumvent a speed assistance device, and protects device data from public disclosure except under warrant or emergency circumstances
