Great grandparents and great grandchildren are added to the list of family members who may request certified copies of birth and death certificates in Washington state.

Amends RCW 70.58A.530 to expand the definition of qualified applicants for vital records beyond the previous list of spouse, domestic partner, child, parent, stepparent, stepchild, sibling, grandparent, and grandchild.

Passed unanimously in both chambers (House 96-0, Senate 49-0) and signed by Governor Bob Ferguson on April 11, 2025.

Effective date is July 27, 2025.
