Ambulance services must wait at least 120 days after sending an initial billing statement before selling or assigning motor vehicle accident-related medical debt to collection agencies

Motor vehicle accidents covered include incidents where pedestrians or bicyclists are struck or injured by motor vehicles

Insurance Commissioner may refer ambulance services with a pattern of unresolved violations to the Department of Health, after giving the service an opportunity to cure violations or provide an explanation

Department of Health may levy fines up to statutory limits per violation and take additional enforcement action against ambulance services with repeated violations

Takes effect January 1, 2026
