Counties, municipalities, and other political subdivisions with their own deferred compensation plans may now automatically enroll eligible employees in 457 plans, with employees able to opt out as described in plan documents.

Automatic enrollment provision for state employees (3% contribution to default investment option) explicitly excludes employees of political subdivisions that offer their own deferred compensation plans.

Applies to full-time, part-time, and career seasonal employees of state and local governments, including elected officials, judges, and legislators.

Passed unanimously (House 95-0, Senate 48-0) and takes effect July 27, 2025.
