Youth sports organization coaches are added to the list of mandatory reporters required to report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement or the Department of Children, Youth, and Families within 48 hours

Department of Children, Youth, and Families must develop mandatory reporter training for youth sports coaches by January 1, 2027, with all coaches required to complete annual training beginning July 1, 2027

Youth sports organizations must conduct Washington State Patrol or federal background checks on all coaches before hiring, with prospective coaches paying associated costs

Youth sports organizations are prohibited from hiring coaches convicted of crimes against children or other persons as defined in RCW 43.43.830

"Youth sports organization" is defined to include private for-profit/nonprofit athletic organizations, interscholastic activities, and city/county youth athletic programs serving persons under 18, but excludes licensed child care centers, higher education institutions, and unsupervised/unscheduled activities
