Cities and towns may establish fire protection districts with matching corporate boundaries through voter-approved resolution, providing fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency medical services

Fire protection districts formed prior to July 1, 2026 require the city/town to reduce its general fund property tax levy by the amount of the new district's levy; districts formed after this date are not subject to this requirement

Public hearing notices for district formation may now be published on city websites or local newspapers for three consecutive weeks, replacing the previous requirement for newspaper publication only

Fire protection districts may contract with the parent city/town for administrative services including information technology, financial, and human resources functions

Removes the restriction that prevented cities/towns from recapturing levy capacity that was reduced when forming a fire protection district, allowing future levy limit calculations to proceed without this penalty
