Applies to candidates for city, town, or special purpose district offices who die after filing, upon county auditor receiving a death certificate

For offices with a primary: if general election ballots have not yet been ordered, the third-place primary finisher advances to replace the deceased candidate on the ballot

For offices with a primary: if ballots have already been ordered, votes cast for the deceased candidate will not be counted

For offices without a primary: the deceased candidate's name is removed from the ballot if not yet ordered; if already ordered, votes for them are not counted

Creates a "void in candidacy" if the deceased candidate was the only person who filed for the office during the filing period
