School districts must grant students up to one excused absence day per academic term for civic engagement activities such as legislative visits, organized advocacy days, convention participation, civic leadership events, and meetings with elected officials.

Requests must be signed by a parent or legal guardian, describe the civic activity, and be submitted at least seven days before the planned absence.

Civic engagement activities must be optional to course curriculum and cannot be organized or supervised by the school district.

Maintains existing provision encouraging up to five excused absence days per year for student participation in state-recognized search and rescue activities.
