Washington House of Representatives celebrates Nowruz (Persian New Year), which falls on March 20th at 7:46 a.m. and marks the Spring Equinox

Nowruz originated in the Iranian plateau over 3,000 years ago and is celebrated by nearly 300 million people globally, including more than 1 million Americans and tens of thousands in Washington state

The holiday is observed by people of different faiths and cultures in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, the Hazara community, and other countries

The resolution recognizes contributions of Middle Eastern and Central Asian communities to Washington state in business, government, higher education, medicine, military service, law, and social justice

The House stands with communities that celebrate Nowruz and wishes a happy and prosperous new year to all
