Local governments must provide underinsured motorist coverage for officers, employees, and agents operating or occupying government-owned vehicles in the course of employment

Coverage protects against damages from underinsured drivers, hit-and-run incidents, and phantom vehicles for bodily injury, death, or property damage

Minimum coverage limits set at $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident

Coverage may be obtained through private carriers, self-insurance programs under chapter 48.62 RCW, or other authorized methods

Effective date: January 1, 2026
