Public schools are required to designate time in January for activities commemorating the lives, history, achievements, and contributions of Chinese Americans and Americans of Chinese descent during the designated history month

Beginning September 1, 2025, school district boards must incorporate instruction about the Chinese Exclusion Act and other relevant historical events, such as the Tacoma method, when reviewing or adopting social studies curriculum

School districts must use a free curriculum developed by the Washington State Historical Society in collaboration with a Washington nonprofit organization that advances civic harmony from differing cultural backgrounds

School districts may modify the curriculum to add regionally specific elements or integrate it into existing curricular materials
