Rainier School in Buckley, Pierce County must close as a residential habilitation center by June 30, 2027, with no new long-term admissions permitted as of July 27, 2025, and no admissions of any kind after June 30, 2027

Former long-term residents who transition to community settings have a one-time right to return to Rainier School within the first year after their move; additional return requests require department review and secretary approval

Department of Social and Health Services must provide transitioning residents with meaningful placement choices including state-operated living alternatives, supported living programs, adult family homes, or transfers to other residential habilitation centers

Rainier School employees must be offered opportunities to work in state-operated living alternatives and other state facilities and programs

DSHS must submit regular progress reports to the legislature beginning December 1, 2025, tracking residential capacity, resident transitions, deaths, and employee outcomes, with a 90-day public comment period by November 1, 2025 to identify strategies for mitigating community impacts
