Washington State School Directors' Association must develop a standardized process and template form by December 1, 2026 for excusing high school students from physical education requirements

School districts must adopt and implement the standardized waiver process by August 1, 2027

Students may be excused from physical education for physical disability, employment, religious belief, participation in directed athletics or military science, or other good cause

The standardized process must address health and physical education learning standards, include alternative means of engaging in physical activities, and incorporate mastery-based credit options

Requirements apply equally to traditional school districts, charter schools, and state-tribal education compact schools
