School districts must develop cardiac emergency response plans for each school and athletic facility beginning in the 2026-27 school year.

Each school must designate a cardiac emergency response team including coaches, nurses, athletic trainers, teachers, counselors, and administrators trained in CPR, first aid, and AED use.

Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) must be placed throughout campuses with the goal of reaching a cardiac arrest victim within three minutes, stored in unlocked locations with clear signage.

Plans must be rehearsed at least annually at each school and integrated with local emergency service providers' response protocols.

All plans and training must follow evidence-based guidelines from the American Heart Association or similar organizations focused on emergency cardiovascular care.
