Washington Student Achievement Council must work with higher education institutions to develop formal data collection protocols identifying parenting students, with data collected during enrollment and updated annually

A work group will be convened to provide recommendations on identifying students' parenting status, including representatives from public four-year institutions, community and technical colleges, student advocacy organizations, and Communities for our Colleges

Work group must submit recommendations for campus and community partnership practices supporting parenting students to the legislature by December 1, 2026

Addresses current lack of consistent statewide tracking of parenting students, who face distinct barriers to enrollment, persistence, and completion related to child care, basic needs, and financial aid
