Fairfax bridge over the Carbon River on State Route 165 closed permanently in April 2025 due to severe structural deterioration, eliminating the sole access point to a large portion of Mount Rainier National Park

Residents south of the bridge are now forced to traverse logging roads over private land to access their homes, with some spending 8+ hours away from home for basic errands like shopping

Recent severe storms closed the temporary access roads, completely cutting off all outside access for residents south of the bridge

Requests federal government declare the bridge closure and replacement an emergency, allowing NEPA environmental review to occur concurrently with or after construction of the replacement bridge

Requests removal of the current bridge from the historic register to enable rapid construction of a replacement bridge
