Senate Resolution 8682 recognizes the YMCA's 150th anniversary in Washington State, founded in Seattle on August 7, 1876 by Dexter Horton, Rolland Denny, and Catherine Maynard

Washington State currently has 15 YMCA associations, 50 branches, and 8 residential camps employing over 9,000 people statewide

The YMCA is the largest nonprofit provider of licensed child care in Washington and the leading provider of water safety classes in partnership with school districts

Historical YMCA contributions include inventing basketball and volleyball, pioneering night school and ESL classes, and hosting the first Father's Day celebration at Spokane YMCA in 1910

The resolution directs the Secretary of the Senate to send copies to all 15 independent YMCA association CEOs in Washington for public display during the anniversary year
