Washington State Senate honors Steve Nelsen upon retirement after 34 years of public service, including 22 years as the first Executive Director of the Law Enforcement Officers' and Firefighters' Plan 2 Retirement Board

Nelsen helped advance and secure passage of 42 pieces of legislation strengthening the LEOFF Plan 2 retirement system, including line of duty death benefits for fallen public safety members and their families

Contributed to long-term plan funding reform ensuring fiscal integrity and sustainability of the retirement system, and was instrumental in enacting significant plan benefit enhancements

Recognized as an honorary firefighter for his dedication to the public safety community and commitment to the agency's guiding principle: "they keep us safe, we keep them secure"
